Single European Code (SEC) for Tissues and Cells
In April 2015, the European Commission (EU) published a new Directive which concerns applying a single European code to all tissues and cells being transported within the EU.
This directive aims to ensure clear labelling, identification and traceability of tissues and cells within the EU. To do this, a Single European Code (SEC) will be used to facilitate the traceability of tissues and cells used for human application, which applies to eggs, sperm and embryos.
The Single European Code for Tissues and Cells will become applicable for Member States on the 27th April 2017.
How can the Matcher system help you become compliant with the SEC ?
- The Matcher system can generate SEC compliant codes for transport of material
- The Matcher labels can accommodate the 40 digit SEC which will fit most storage items
- In the few instances where it is not physically possible to fit an SEC on the label, the Matcher system can product a compliant report that can be shipped with the sample
- Matcher have been working with the SEC team to ensure a compliant solution
